Undercover is a rising star among Wisconsin cover bands. This is not surprising, given the broad swath of music they cover -
there is truly something for everyone. From soul to Santana, folk rock to funk, and downtown to country, they've got it...well..."under cover".
Obviously it takes a remarkable group of musicians to make this happen. All five members have been in regional touring bands,
and find themselves together because of a common distaste for being limited to one kind of music. Scott Hayes (Acoustic Guitar, Vocals)
brings deep country roots from his native West Virginia, but he also has a voice big enough to take on the likes of Bob Seger. John Giftos
(Electric Guitar, Vocals) brings his years of Southern rock experience from Florida, along with his clear tenor harmonies. Rob Szudy
(Organ, Keyboards, Harmonica, Banjo, Mandolin, Vocals) brings touring funk experience, as well as his big soulful voice and a newfound
interest in country. Greg Schwenn (Percussion, Vocals) is another local, and his contributions are more complex than they first appear.
Under the seemingly no-nonsense rock drumming, the discerning listener can hear a surprising breadth of influence at work. And finally,
Bob Ohm (Bass, Vocals) brings years of national touring experience and a bluesy growl at the microphone.
Together, the members of Undercover have at their command a great variety of musical tools. Not the least of these is their big three-,
four- and five-part harmonies. Few bands can sing this well together. Add that to the solid rhythm section and blazing solos traded between
guitar and Hammond organ (yes folks, it's the genuine several-hundred-pound article), and you have an undeniably powerful band. But in spite
of all these abilities, perhaps the most remarkable trait of this group is the absence of "rock stars". These five unassuming musicians work
as a seamless team with one common goal - to bring great live music to people.
And they do.
